Sertoma has four big conventions:the District, the
State, the Regional and the International. the District and the State
are within driving distance, and many people attend. They usually do
not involve an overnight stay. The Club pays for registration and
car-pooling is usually coordinated. The Regional Convention is quite
different. We have five states in our Region including MN, ND, SD, IA
and NE. Brainerd Noon Sertoma typically sends anywhere from 10-20
members to the Regional. The Club pays $100 of the registration and the
individual member picks up the remainder of the cost. They are
responsible for their own expenses. Some of the Convention Committee's
responsibilities are to book rooms, sign up members to attend, and
supervise all arrangements including travel. Usually only the club
president and his/her guest attend the International Convention,
although all members are welcome.
Our Sertoma Club encourages its leadership to participate in these
valuable experiences so Club Presidents usually have their expenses paid
including hotels, meals and travel. The last year that Brainerd hosted
the Regional Convention in 1995, the entire club participated and in a
sense was a member of this committee. We are looking forward to hosting
the regional convention in 2008 . The Coordinator for these activities
is Kristin Larsen. The committe co chairs for the 2008 Convention are
Rory Coit and Joe Schulte. |
